Early Life and Amputation

Vanessa Low was born on July 17, 1990, in Schwerin, Germany. Growing up, she had two sisters, an older sister named Cynthia and a younger sister named Olivia. Vanessa's early education took place at an elementary school in Ratzeburg and continued in secondary school.

Her life took a dramatic turn on June 18, 2006. While on a platform in Ratzeburg, she was struck by a train. To save her life, doctors performed a bilateral knee-level amputation. Vanessa remained in a coma for two months, spending a total of five months in hospital.

Discovery of Athletics

In 2008, Vanessa began her professional journey in athletics after leaving high school. With her newfound passion, she dedicated herself to training and joined the German Paralympic team.

Paralympic Success

Vanessa's determination and hard work paid off. She represented Germany at two Summer Paralympic Games:

- 2012 London Paralympics:Competed in T42 long jump and 100m

- 2016 Rio Paralympics:Champion in T42 long jump, setting a world record of 4.93m

National and International Achievements

Beyond her Paralympic success, Vanessa has also achieved remarkable accolades at the national and international levels. Her accomplishments include:
