Van Unayanyan: Armenian Artist

Born in the city of Gyumri in 1941, Van Unayanyan was an Armenian artist known for his vibrant paintings and captivating graphic works.

Early Education and Career

In 1958, Unayanyan graduated from art school and enrolled in the Leninakan branch of the Panos Terlemezyan State College of Fine Arts. He pursued further studies at the Yerevan Art Institute, majoring in painting from 1966 to 1971.

Artistic Achievements

Unayanyan became a member of the Union of Artists of Armenia in 1976. His works were featured in numerous republican and all-Union exhibitions. He created an extensive body of graphic works, many of which showcased the beauty of his Armenian heritage.

International Recognition

One of Unayanyan's most notable paintings, "Memories," was acquired by Roy Mels Gallery in England in 1987. His works also found homes in galleries in Moscow, Los Angeles, France, Italy, and Hungary. In 2001, his graphic work "Nahapet Kuchak" was exhibited in Hungary.

Artistic Legacy

Throughout his career, Unayanyan worked as an artist at the "Armenian Book" department and the Chess School. His paintings and graphic works reside in the National Gallery of Armenia, the Modern Art Museum of Yerevan, and galleries worldwide.

Final Years and Legacy

Van Unayanyan passed away on March 22, 2021, in Yerevan from complications of COVID-19. His artistic legacy continues to inspire and captivate art enthusiasts around the world, paying tribute to the rich cultural heritage of Armenia.
