Early Life and Education
Vardan Babkenovich Bostanjyan was born on September 9, 1949, in Yerevan, Armenia. From 1966 to 1971, he studied technical cybernetics at the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute, earning a degree in electrical engineering. He went on to become a doctor of economic sciences and was appointed as a docent in 1980 and later as a professor.
Academic Career
From 1971 to 1974, Bostanjyan worked as a senior engineer at the Institute of Mathematical Mechanics in Yerevan. From 1977 to 1993, he held various positions at the State Standard and Planning Institute, including senior researcher, sector head, department head, and deputy director for scientific affairs.
Political Career
Bostanjyan's political career began in 1993 when he became the head of the socio-economic department of the Supreme Council of the Armenian SSR. He was also appointed as the head of the economic analysis department of the Armenian Parliament. From 1994 to 1996, he served as a member of the Central Bank of Armenia's board. In 1999, he was elected to the Armenian Parliament, becoming a member of the Standing Committee on Financial, Credit, Budgetary, and Economic Issues. He was also a member of the "Unity" faction.
Later Career
After leaving the Parliament in 2003, Bostanjyan became the head of the Financial Accounting Department at the Economics Faculty of Yerevan State University. He was re-elected to Parliament in 2007, becoming the deputy chairman of the Standing Committee on Economic Issues. He is a member of the "Prosperous Armenia" party.
Academic and Professional Affiliations
Bostanjyan is an author of over 130 publications. He is a member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences and a corresponding member of the Engineering Academy of Armenia.
