Early Life and Education

Vasily Ilyenkov was born into a priest's family in the village of Shilovo-Smolenskoye on March 12, 1897. He attended four classes at the Smolensk Theological Seminary and later pursued studies at the History and Philology Department of Yuryev University from 1915 to 1917, but did not complete his degree.

Military Service and Journalism

In 1917, Ilyenkov was drafted into the army. After the war, he worked as an editor for the newspapers "Nashe Derevnya" and "Bryansky Rabochy" from 1928 to 1930. In 1930, he relocated to Moscow and served as the Organizational Secretary of the Russian Association of Proletarian Writers (RAPP) until 1932.

Literary Career

Ilyenkov began publishing his works in 1929. He resided in the renowned "writer's house" in Kamergersky Lane in Moscow with his family. During the Great Patriotic War, he served as a war correspondent for the newspaper "Krasnaya Zvezda" and had his stories published in "Pravda" and various journals.

Literary Style

Ilyenkov's literary style was characterized by its lack of artificial plots and pursuit of sensationalism. He excelled in depicting nature and crafting masterful dialogue.
