He served as a Young Pioneer leader, a chauffeur, a cinema projectionist, a photographer, and a journalist for the regional newspaper "Molodoy Kommunar".

Peskov's journalistic career took a major turn in 1956 when he became a photojournalist and essayist for the prestigious newspaper "Komsomolskaya Pravda". His first book, "Steps on the Dew", was published in 1960.
