Early Life and Education
Vakhtang Kipiani was born on April 1, 1971, in Tbilisi, Georgia, to a Ukrainian mother of Armenian descent and a Georgian father. He received his primary and secondary education in various schools in Novorossiysk, Kyiv, and Nikolaev. From 1989 to 1994, he studied history and law at the Nikolaev State Pedagogical Institute.
Activism and Journalism in Nikolaev
Kipiani's involvement in journalism and politics began in 1990 when he participated in a student hunger strike in Kyiv's Maidan Nezalezhnosti. In 1991, he founded the Nikolaev branch of the Ukrainian Student Union. During this period, he also worked as chief editor of the newspaper "Na Straze" and taught history at the Ukrainian Pedagogical Gymnasium No. 5.
Journalism and Television Career
Kipiani's career in professional journalism started with his role as editor and presenter on the television channel "Nikolaev" from 1994 to 1995. He then worked as a correspondent and editor for "Novaya Nikolaevskaya Gazeta" and as a freelance reviewer for "UNIAN-Politika" and "UNIAN-Obshchestvo." From 1997 to 1998, he served as a political correspondent for the newspaper "Ukrayina Moloda."
Kipiani's career in television continued at "Novy Kanal" and "Channel 1+1," where he held various roles, including associate editor, editor-in-chief of news programs, and presenter of the program "Double Proof." Other Projects and Activities
In addition to his journalism career, Kipiani has been involved in various other projects. He is also an avid collector of newspapers and election materials, with a collection of over 30,000 items.
Kipiani has been a member of several political parties, including the People's Movement of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Republican Party, and the "Pora" Party. He is known for his interest in the history of samizdat, the dissident movement, and political extremism.
Personal Life
Vakhtang Kipiani is married to Tetyana, with whom he has three children: daughter Tamara and sons Ilarion and David.
