Early Life and Education

Vasili Aleksandrovich Zubakin was born on August 26, 1958, in Omsk, Russia. He completed his schooling and pursued a degree in Radio Engineering and Production of Radio Equipment from Omsk Polytechnic Institute in 1980. Subsequently, he earned a Ph.D. in Economics from the Plekhanov Moscow Institute of National Economy in 1986 for his dissertation on "Management of Organizational Development in Production-Economic Complexes."

Business and Academic Career

In 1991, Zubakin founded the Siberian Capital Cheque Investment Fund, which later became the Siberian Capital holding in 1993. He served as its general director from 1996 to 2000. During this time, he also established the anti-crisis management organization "Soдействие" in 1997.

Involvement in RAO "EES Rossii"

Zubakin's expertise caught the attention of the Russian energy company RAO "EES Rossii" in 2000. He joined the team responsible for restructuring the company and later held the position of Deputy Head and then Head of the Department of Economics from 2000 to 2002. In 2002, he became a member of the board of RAO "EES Rossii," a role he held until 2006.

Hydropower Industry and "РусГидро"

In 2006, Zubakin joined the board of OAO "HydroOGK," an energy company operating hydropower plants. He became Deputy Chairman of the Board in 2007, playing a pivotal role in managing the company's operations. In June 2008, he was appointed Acting Chairman of the Board of the company, which was renamed to OAO "Российская гидрогенерирующая компания" (RusHydro) in the same month.

Academic Achievements and Accomplishments

Throughout his career, Zubakin has remained actively involved in academia. He holds the position of Professor at Saint Petersburg State Polytechnic University. In 2006, he defended his doctoral dissertation on "Models and Methods of Management of Hydropower Companies in the Context of Market Liberalization," earning a Doctor of Economics degree.

Personal Life

Vasili Zubakin is married and has two children, a daughter, and a son.
