Vera Vasilyevna Isaeva
Early Life and CareerVera Vasilyevna Isaeva was a renowned Russian Soviet sculptor born in Saint Petersburg in 1913. She embarked on her artistic journey at the Leningrad Higher School of Art and Industry named after V. I. Mukhina.
Contributions to Leningrad
Isaeva left an enduring legacy in Leningrad through her remarkable sculptures. She collaborated with R. Taurit to create the iconic "Motherland" monument at the Piskarevskoye Memorial Cemetery (1959). Additionally, she designed the monuments to Maxim Gorky on Kronverksky Prospekt and Alexander Popov on Kamennoostrovsky Prospekt.
Wartime Contributions
During the Great Patriotic War, Isaeva actively participated in camouflaging the city of Leningrad. As part of a sculpture brigade led by N. V. Tomsky, she contributed to the creation of relief agitational posters. Together with other artists, she collaborated on the sculpture "For the Motherland!" (6 x 5 m), displayed on Nevsky Prospekt.
Partisan Mission
Alongside V. Ya. Bogolyubov, A. V. Andreeva-Petoshina, and A. F. Gunis, Isaeva was dispatched to a partisan base of the Leningrad Front by the Union of Artists. Wartime experiences deeply influenced her artistic output.
Other Notable Works
Isaeva's portfolio also includes the bas-relief medallion with Admiral F. F. Ushakov's portrait on the Baltiyskaya metro station. Her contributions to the city of Leningrad have been recognized with a memorial plaque installed at her former residence on Podkovyrova Street.
