Early Life and Career
Vera Ivanovna Levchenko was born on September 21, 1920, in Ivan'kovo village, Volosovsky district, Vologda province (now Vojegodsky district). After graduating from high school in 1938, she arrived in Arkhangelsk and joined the newly constructed Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill in 1939. As she lacked experience with the specialized machinery installed at the mill, she sought training at the Syassk Pulp and Paper Mill in the Leningrad region. She then assisted in launching the mill's first papermaking machine in 1940.
Wartime Contributions
During her early days at the mill, Levchenko worked in the drying shop. Subsequently, she served as a dryer and screen technician. In 1942, replacing a colleague who had gone to the front, she became head of a Komsomol-youth brigade. Through persistent competition, her team earned the prestigious title of "Frontline Brigade." For her tireless work during the war, she was awarded the "For Valiant Labor in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945" medal.
Post-War and Soviet Honors
In 1959, Levchenko participated in the launch of the mill's third papermaking machine and became a foreman there. On November 17, 1970, her team fulfilled the eighth five-year plan (1966-1970), producing over 13,000 square meters of paper above the target.
In recognition of her outstanding contributions, the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR bestowed upon Levchenko the title of Hero of Socialist Labor on April 1971. She received the Order of Lenin and the "Sickle and Hammer" gold medal for her achievements. Levchenko became known for her unwavering work ethic and earned immense respect within the community.
Retirement and Legacy
Levchenko retired in 1973 and continued her service to the community as an elected representative in the Isaakogorsk regional, Arkhangelsk city, and regional councils of working people's deputies. She resided in Novodvinsk, Arkhangelsk Oblast, until her passing on June 24, 2012, at the age of 92. Levchenko was laid to rest in Novodvinsk.

Moreover, Levchenko's name was inscribed in the Book of Honor of the Ministry of Pulp and Paper Industry of the USSR and the Central Committee of the Trade Union, as well as in the Book of Honor of the Arkhangelsk Oblast.
