Biography of Vera Miles

Born in Boise City, Oklahoma, USA, Vera Miles, whose real surname is Vera Ralston, is an attractive actress with a clean All-American look. She made her way to Hollywood directly from a beauty contest and landed a small role in "Two Tickets to Broadway" (1951). She posed for photographs and later married Gordon Scott, the main character from "Tarzan's Hidden Jungle" (1955). However, they divorced later on.

Early Career and Breakthrough

Vera Miles had the privilege of being a favorite of Alfred Hitchcock, John Ford, and Walt Disney, a claim not many actresses can make. Her career took a dramatic turn when John Ford cast her as a pious love interest with an interest in Jeffrey Hunter in "The Searchers" (1956). She then delivered a stunning performance as Henry Fonda's wife in Hitchcock's "The Wrong Man" (1957).

Collaboration with Hitchcock and Ford

Although pregnancy prevented her from playing the lead role in "Vertigo," Hitchcock cast her as Janet Leigh's sister in "Psycho" (1960), the one who discovers the truth about Norman Bates' mother. She reunited with Ford in the western "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance."

Success at Disney Studios

Vera Miles obtained her first roles at Disney Studios in "A Tiger Walks" (1964) and "Those Calloways" (1965). These roles were particularly beneficial for her career and led to a long string of works with Disney in the 1970s.

Television Success and Return to "Psycho"

From this point on, Vera Miles received better roles on television than on the big screen. In 1983, she reprised her famous role in "Psycho II," vehemently protesting against the proposed justification for Norman Bates' murders, just as she did in the original, where Anthony Perkins played him.
