Vera Polyakova: A Multifaceted Belorussian Artist
Childhood and AdolescenceVera Polyakova was born on October 22, 1978, in Minsk, Belarus. Her mother was a shooting athlete, while her father pursued engineering and later became an entrepreneur. In the 1990s, the family relocated to the countryside, where Vera developed her independence and skills, including horseback riding.
From a young age, Vera dreamed of becoming a musician, performing with her school choir and participating in theatrical productions. However, due to limited musical education in their new location, she turned to theater in high school.
Journey to Stardom
When Vera expressed her desire to pursue acting, her family initially expressed doubts. Undeterred, she auditioned for the Belarusian Academy of Arts, where she excelled with a high admission score. After graduating with honors, she continued her studies in graduate school, later becoming a professor of stage movement and fencing. In addition, Vera graduated from the Belarusian State Academy of Management in 2017, earning a degree in economics and management.
Film and Theater
Vera Polyakova made her film debut at the age of 20 in "The Guide Dog" (2000). She went on to star in various genres, including detective thrillers, romantic comedies, and historical dramas. Her early work was primarily produced by Belorussian film studios, but she later collaborated on joint Russian-Belorussian projects and Russian films such as "Kamenskaya-2" and "Sunday in a Women's Bathhouse."
One of Vera's most memorable roles was Vera Streltsova, the head of the pathology department in the maternity hospital series "Oh, Mom!" (2012-2013 and 2018).
On the theatrical stage, Vera has performed with several notable companies, including the Minsk Youth Theater, the National Academic Drama Theater named after Maxim Gorky, the National Academic Drama Theater named after Yanka Kupala, and the Theater-Studio of the Film Actor of the Belarusfilm film studio. She has starred in productions such as "Nameless Star," "The Makropulos Affair," and "Pygmalion."
TheATER Project and "Princess Meri"
In 2012, Vera founded the theatrical project "TriTformaT" and the children's collective "Scarlet Sails." Within "TriTformaT," she produced the play "Princess Meri" (2021), an innovative interpretation of Mikhail Lermontov's novella. The production featured the President's Orchestra of the Republic of Belarus and received the Grand Prix at the "Tararabumbia" festival in St. Petersburg.
Music and Television
In 2007, Vera released her debut album, "Actress," featuring 11 songs written by Olga Rovnaya and Sergey Sukhomlin. Her music has also been used in films she has starred in, including "Oh, Mom!" season 2.
As a television host, Vera has worked on programs such as "Woman's Diary," "Capital's Morning," and the talk show "Life as Life." In 2019, she joined the team of the program "Our Morning" on the ONT TV channel.
Personal Life
Vera Polyakova has been married twice. Her first marriage ended in divorce. In her second marriage, to Vladimir Makei, a government official, she gave birth to son Artem in 2009. Artem has appeared on stage with his mother and participated in the selection for the "Junior Eurovision Song Contest."
Academic Recognition
In December 2021, Vera Polyakova was awarded the title of Associate Professor by the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences.
Tragedy and Continuing Journey
On November 26, 2022, tragedy struck when Vera's husband, Vladimir Makei, passed away suddenly.
Despite this loss, Vera continues to pursue her creative endeavors. In 2022, she presented "The Cherry Orchard" with the "TriTformaT" project. Additionally, she has taken her productions on tour to Russia, performing in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
