Biography of Veronika Velez-Zuzulova

Slovak Alpine Skier

Veronika Velez-Zuzulova is a Slovak alpine skier who specializes in slalom. She was born on July 7, 1984, in Bratislava, Slovakia. Velez-Zuzulova is known for her achievements in the World Cup and her participation in three Olympic Games.

Early Career

Veronika Velez-Zuzulova started her skiing career at a young age under the guidance of her father, Timotej Zuzula, and Vladimir Kovarzh. She made her debut in the World Cup in 2000 and achieved her first podium finish in February 2004.

World Cup Success

Velez-Zuzulova's breakthrough came on December 29, 2012, when she won her first World Cup race in Semmering. Just a few days later, she secured another victory in parallel slalom in Munich. In January 2016, Velez-Zuzulova repeated her success by winning consecutive slalom races in Flachau, Austria.

International Competitions

Veronika Velez-Zuzulova represented Slovakia in multiple World Championships and Olympic Games. Her best result in World Championships was a fourth place in slalom in 2015. In the Olympics, she participated in four disciplines. In Salt Lake City 2002, she finished 32nd in giant slalom and did not complete the slalom race. In Turin 2006, she finished 22nd in slalom and 15th in the combined event. In Vancouver 2010, she competed in giant slalom but did not finish, and finished 10th in slalom.

Marriage and Personal Life

On April 27, 2012, Veronika Velez-Zuzulova married her French coach Romain Velez and took on a double surname. The couple tied the knot at the Cathedral of St. Martin in Bratislava. Velez-Zuzulova continues to use Salomon skis and boots in her competitions. Unfortunately, she had to miss the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi due to an injury.
