Biography of Verry Idham Henyansyah
Verry Idham Henyansyah, also known by the alias 'Ryan', is an Indonesian singer and serial killer. He confessed to the murder of 11 people and was sentenced to death by the country's criminal court. Currently, he is awaiting execution in Kesambi Penitentiary, located in the city of Cirebon, Indonesia.
A Notorious Case
Ryan's case gained nationwide attention due to the extreme brutality of his killings. One of his victims was found on the roadside leading to Jakarta, dismembered into seven parts and impaled on a pole. However, he showed a somewhat more careful approach with the rest of his victims, burying most of them in the backyard of his home in Jombang Regency, East Java. It was this fatal mistake that eventually led to his arrest.
Musical Interlude
Interestingly, Ryan used his arrest as an opportunity for fame. Initially, he entertained judges, fellow inmates, and journalists with his singing, but later he released an entire album. In February 2009, Henyansyah published an autobiography titled 'Ryan's Untold Story', which contained intriguing information about his past.
The Early Years
In his autobiography, Ryan claims to have been an almost perfect boy in his childhood. He excelled in school and later pursued a career as a Quran teacher. It is worth noting that his first male partner was his Quran teacher, and their relationship started when Ryan was 20 years old.
A Career Change
Ryan eventually became an aerobic instructor, which helped him establish valuable connections in the modeling and fitness world. However, his biography delves into much more shocking material. For instance, he included a detailed map of his backyard in the book, marking the burial sites of his victims. He also discussed his motives, stating that in some cases, anger drove him, while in others, he had an overwhelming desire to "cleanse" himself. The first five murders remained unexplained even to him.
Motives and Confessions
Ryan openly admitted that his main motive for the crimes was his strong dislike towards homosexuals. Despite being a member of the same sexual minority, he expressed shame about his orientation and sought to redeem himself by killing those who resembled him. One of his victims even offered him money and a car in exchange for sex with him and his partner. The prosecution noted that Ryan meticulously appropriated the possessions of his victims.
Unprecedented Proposal
In October 2010, Ryan surprised everyone by announcing his intention to marry Eny Wijaya, who had served time for drug trafficking. They met in 2008 while both were in pretrial detention at a Jakarta police facility for drug addicts and dealers. In September 2010, Eny was released after completing her sentence. Ryan claims that he plans to marry Wijaya, at least for the sake of his mother, who always dreamed of her son having a normal heterosexual marriage. Additionally, he intends to donate the proceeds from his autobiography to his mother.
