Early Life and Education

Veniamin Alexandrovich Starshenov, born in Moscow, attended School No. 363 in the Bogorodskoye district. An exceptional student, he maintained an outstanding academic record until eighth grade.

Hockey Career: A Legendary Forward

Moscow Spartak (1957-1974, 1978-1979)

Starshenov embarked on his hockey journey with Moscow Spartak in 1957. Over 15 seasons, he became an icon, scoring a remarkable 405 goals in 540 games. Returning for brief stints in the seasons 1974/75 and 1978/79, he notably became the first player in USSR championship history to score 400 career goals in 1978.

Olympic and World Championships (1963-1971)

As an integral part of the Soviet Union's legendary hockey squad, Starshenov triumphed at the 1964 and 1968 Olympic Games. Participating in ten World Championships, he captured gold in nine consecutive tournaments from 1963 to 1971. From 1969 to 1971, he served as captain of the national team.

Oji Eagles (1975)

In 1975, Starshenov left the USSR to join the Oji Eagles in Japan, where he played as both a player and coach.

Post-Playing Career

Coaching and Academic Pursuits

After retiring from competitive hockey, Starshenov took up coaching roles with HC Spartak (1972-1974) and Oji Seishi (1976-1978). He completed his doctorate in pedagogy in 1975 and became a professor at the Moscow Engineering and Physics Institute (1979).

Leadership in Hockey and Sports Industry

Starshenov served as Chairman of the Russian SFSR Hockey Federation (1987-1990), Vice President of HC Spartak (1999-2003), and President of HC Spartak (2002). Since 2004, he has been the President of the Association of Enterprises of the Sports Industry (APSI).
