Football Career

Early Career

Oleksiy Yakovenko began his professional football career in 1977, playing for clubs such as SKA Kiev, Desna Chernihiv, and Okean Kerch. His career as a player spanned until 1982.

Coaching Career

Assistant Coach

From 1994 to 1999, Yakovenko served as an assistant coach for Ukraine's U-23 youth national team. Subsequently, from 1997 to 2001, he held the same role for Ukraine's U-16 and U-19 youth national teams.

Shakhtar Donetsk

In 2001, Yakovenko joined Shakhtar Donetsk as the head of their scientific and sports analytics group. He later became the club's deputy sporting director from 2004 to 2005.

Other Coaching Roles

From 2005 to 2007, Yakovenko coached FC Chornomorets Odessa, eventually becoming their interim head coach. He also worked as the head coach and sporting director of FC Knyazha Shchaslyve from 2007 to 2008.

Coaching Abroad

In 2009, Yakovenko ventured to Kazakhstan to become the head coach of FC Kazakhmys. The following year, he returned to Ukraine as a coach for FC Zvezda Kirovohrad.

Return to Kazakhstan and Further Coaching

From 2011 to 2012, Yakovenko was the head coach of FC Okzhetpes in Kazakhstan. He then joined FC Metallurg Zaporizhzhya as a coach in 2012. In 2015, he moved to Moldova, where he held various roles with FC Zaria Balti.

Recent Appointments

Since August 2016, Yakovenko has been the sporting director of FC Zvezda Kropyvnytskyi and an assistant coach for the team.

Achievements

While coaching FC Knyazha Shchaslyve, Yakovenko led the team to first place in the Ukrainian Second League in 2007-2008.
