Education and Early Career
Hailing from Paris, Duruy pursued his passion for history under the tutelage of renowned historian Jules Michelet. His academic brilliance led to his appointment as Professor of History at the University of Reims, followed by the University of Paris.
Historical Works
Duruy's scholarly achievements garnered widespread recognition with his publication, "Histoire des Romains" (1844). This comprehensive work captured the attention of Napoleon III, who, despite Duruy's Republican views, recognized his exceptional abilities and entrusted him with influential roles in education.
Minister of Education
From 1863 to 1869, Duruy served as France's Minister of Education. He initiated groundbreaking reforms, including:
