Early Life and Military Service
Born on December 22, 1924, in Orekhovo-Zuyevo, Russian SFSR, Alexey Ivanov joined the Red Army in October 1942 and entered the front line in January 1943. He fought valiantly on the Leningrad Front throughout the war.
Valorous Exploits and Awards
Ivanov's heroism was evident on several occasions. In February 1944, he led his subordinates in repelling enemy attacks at Kuuziku, Estonia, and eliminated 15 German soldiers. For this feat, he received the Order of Glory, 3rd class. In June 1944, he captured two enemy infantrymen and killed multiple soldiers near Vyborg, earning him the Order of Glory, 2nd class.
Ivanov's crowning achievement came on September 17, 1944, when he stormed an enemy stronghold during the forcing of the Emajõgi River in Estonia. He led his squad in killing 20 soldiers and capturing five, successfully repelling three enemy counterattacks. This heroic action was recognized with the award of the Order of Glory, 1st class, making him a full recipient of the prestigious honor.
Post-War Life and Legacy
Following the war's end, Ivanov was demobilized in 1945. He returned to Orekhovo-Zuyevo and embarked on a career in law enforcement after graduating from the local construction technical school and attending the special law enforcement school. He served in the Orekhovo-Zuyevo criminal investigation department until his retirement in 1983. Ivanov passed away on March 24, 1994, leaving behind a legacy of bravery and sacrifice.
In 1995, a memorial plaque bearing Ivanov's image was unveiled on the administrative building of the Internal Affairs Department in Orekhovo-Zuyevo to commemorate his heroic contributions. He remains a respected and revered figure in the city and a symbol of the valor and resilience displayed by the Red Army during the Great Patriotic War.
