Georgian Scientist
Academician Viktor Ivanovich Vekua was a distinguished Georgian scientist, holding the esteemed titles of Professor and Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (1935), as well as Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Georgian SSR (1946).
Early Career
After graduating from the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics at Tbilisi State University in 1927, Vekua began his teaching career at Tbilisi State University and the Georgian Industrial Institute.
Scientific Contributions
Vekua's scientific research focused on the theory of integral and differential equations in partial derivatives, mathematical physics, elasticity theory, and applied mathematics. His contributions to these fields were significant and earned him widespread recognition.
Leadership Roles
In 1933-1935, Vekua served as the Scientific Secretary of the V. A. Steklov Mathematical Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences. In 1935, he became the Director of the Mathematical Institute of the Georgian branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences.

From 1937 to 1985, Vekua held the esteemed position of Rector of the Faculty of Differential and Integral Equations at Tbilisi State University. He also served as the People's Commissar and Minister of Education of the Georgian SSR from 1954 to April 26, 1963.
