Early Life and Career
Aljaksandr Kuprejczyk, a Belarusian (former Soviet) chess grandmaster (1980), was born into a Belarusian family. He began his chess career as a journalist and went on to lead the Soviet student team to victory in the 1968, 1969, and 1974 World Championships.
National and International Success
Kuprejczyk claimed the Belarusian Chess Championship titles in 1972 and 2003. He also triumphed in the All-Union Young Masters' Tournament in 1970 and 1974. In the USSR Championships, he participated in eight editions (1969-1987) and achieved his best results in 1979 (5th-7th), 1980/1981 (6th-9th), and 1987 (8th-11th).
On the international stage, Kuprejczyk had a string of notable achievements, including second place in the Riga Youth Tournament (1967); second and third in Tršhinec (1967) and Sombor (1970); sixth and seventh in Dortmund (1975); first in the Vandoeuvre Women's International Tournament (1977); first and second in Kirovakan (1978); first in Reykjavík and Medina del Campo (1980); first in Hastings (1981/1982); fourth, fifth, and sixth in Minsk (1982); second in New Delhi (1982); second and third in Barcelona (1984); first in Zenica (1985); fifth in Lviv (1986); first and second in Winnipeg (1986); second to eighth in West Berlin (1987); and first and second in Malmö (1987/1988).
