Biography of Victor Piturca
Victor Piturca was born on May 8, 1956, in Romania. He is currently the head coach of the Romanian national team. Piturca started playing football from a young age and has had a successful career both as a player and a coach.
Playing Career
Piturca began his football journey by playing for small clubs and teams. In 1983, he joined the sports club "Steaua" and achieved remarkable results, leading his team to victory in the European Cup. He also won the UEFA Super Cup as part of the "Steaua" national team. Piturca was recognized as the top scorer in the national championship and was awarded the bronze boots by UEFA. He scored approximately 150 goals for "Steaua" and became the club's legendary forward.
During his playing career, Piturca had a talent for scoring goals and sometimes found himself in comical situations. In the semi-finals of the European Cup, Piturca faced off against the "Galatasaray" team. By chance, the opposing goalkeeper accidentally hit Piturca with the ball during a throw-in, which resulted in the ball immediately flying into the opponent's goal.
In 1989, Piturca transferred to the "Lens" team in France, which marked the end of his playing career. He decided to retire from the field in 1990 and pursue a coaching career.
Coaching Career
Piturca started his coaching career in his hometown club, "Steaua." His next team to coach was the football players of "Universitatea Craiova." However, despite his previous significant victories, Piturca was unable to fully share his experience with his team as his coaching career was at a standstill at that time.
In 1996, Piturca became the coach of the junior team of the Romanian national team. In 1998, he was promoted to the position of head coach of the senior national team. However, before the start of the Euro 2000 competition, Piturca was fired from his position due to conflicts within the team's management. He had numerous disputes and disagreements with football authorities such as Georghe Hagi and Georghe Popescu. Ion Becali, one of Piturca's old and main rivals, replaced him.
Despite being unhappy with his dismissal, Piturca decided not to waste time and returned to coach his former students, the players of "Steaua." With this team, he became the champion of Romania in 2004. In the same year, Piturca once again took on the role of head coach of the national team, and he continues to hold that position to this day.
