Early Life and Family

Victoria Adelaide of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg was born on December 31st in Holstein, Germany, as the eldest daughter of Duke Friedrich Ferdinand of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg.

Marriage to Carl Eduard of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha

On October 11th, 1905, Victoria Adelaide married Carl Eduard, the only son of Prince Leopold (the fourth son of Queen Victoria) and the Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.

Loss of Title and Post-War Life

In 1918, Carl Eduard was forced to abdicate his ducal title. After the end of World War I, the family lived as private citizens. Following World War II and the confiscation of their property in East Germany by the Soviet Union, the couple resided in Austria.

Role as Caregiver

Victoria Adelaide devotedly cared for her husband until his death, as he was released from prison due to poor health.

Later Years and Death

Victoria Adelaide passed away on October 3rd, 1970, in the town of Grein, Austria.
