Early Life and Education- Born in 1910 and raised in rural Ukraine
- Completed six grades of elementary school in 1921
- Worked as a railroad worker and later as a railroad station manager
- Joined the Communist Party in 1927
- Graduated from a workers' faculty in 1929
- Attended the Dnepropetrovsk Institute of Railway Engineers in 1930-1931
Military Career
- Joined the Red Army in 1931- Graduated from the Luhansk Military Flight School in 1932
- Served in fighter aviation units of the Trans-Baikal Military District since 1933
- Received the "For Military Merit" medal
Combat Service at Khalkhin Gol- Participated in the Khalkhin Gol battles from May 1939
- Commanded the 2nd Squadron and later served as assistant commander of the 22nd Fighter Aviation Regiment
- Flew 116 combat missions, conducting 10 bombing raids, 12 reconnaissance missions, and participated in 13 air battles
- Shot down 3 enemy aircraft individually and 4 in group actions
- Awarded the Order of Military Valor of the Mongolian People's Republic
Heroism and Accomplishments
- On May 25, 1939, shot down an enemy fighter in a head-on attack- Led a group of I-16 fighters in a bombing attack on Japanese motorized units on May 25, 1939
- Shot down a lagging Japanese aircraft on June 26, 1939
- Intercepted and shot down a Japanese reconnaissance aircraft on July 27, 1939
- Led two air strikes on the enemy airfield north of Lake Uzur-Nur on July 29, 1939
- Shot down one of two Ki-27 fighters that tried to escape
- Shot down another Japanese fighter and forced it to land in a dogfight on July 29, 1939, while returning from the airfield attack
- Awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union on August 29, 1939
Post-War Service- Served as commander of the 22nd Fighter Aviation Regiment from November 1939
- Later commanded the 56th and 44th Fighter Aviation Regiments
- Medical issues forced his retirement from flying in 1940- Attended the Military Academy of the Air Force from 1940 to 1942
- Commanded the 6th Reserve Fighter Aviation Regiment
- Prepared dozens of pilots for the active army, who together shot down 73 enemy aircraft
- Served as deputy commander for logistics of the Air Force of the Transcaucasian Military District
- Promoted to major general of aviation in 1958
- Died and was buried in Tbilisi, Georgia- School No. 2 in Avdeevka was named after him
