Biography of Viktor Medvedchuk

Early Life and Education

Viktor Medvedchuk is a Ukrainian political and state figure. He was born into a family of a repressed individual "for participation in Ukrainian nationalist activities." In 1971, he graduated from a secondary school in Borovaya village, Fastiv district, Kyiv region. In 1978, he graduated from the Law Faculty of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

Legal Career

From 1978 to 1989, Medvedchuk worked as a lawyer at the Kyiv City Bar Association. From 1989 to 1991, he served as the head of the legal consultation of the Shevchenkivskyi district in Kyiv. From 1990 to 2006, he was the President of the Union of Lawyers of Ukraine. He also served as a member of the Board of the Union of Lawyers of the USSR from Ukraine. In 1991, he became the President of the international law firm "BIM" (Ben Israel - Medvedchuk).

Political Career

Medvedchuk entered the political scene in April 1997 when he became a member of the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament) of the second convocation. He served as a member of the Verkhovna Rada for multiple convocations, playing a significant role in Ukrainian politics. He held various positions, including Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

Head of Presidential Administration

From June 2002 to January 2005, Medvedchuk served as the Head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine. During his tenure, he played a key role in implementing political reforms to transition Ukraine to a parliamentary-presidential form of government.

Personal Life and Awards

Medvedchuk married Oksana Marchenko, a well-known Ukrainian television journalist, on July 18, 2003. The wedding ceremony took place in the Foros Church in Crimea and was attended by prominent political figures. Medvedchuk has two daughters from his previous marriages.

Throughout his career, Medvedchuk has been awarded numerous honors, including the Order of Merit of all degrees and the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise. He is also recognized as a Merited Lawyer of Ukraine.

Today, Medvedchuk continues to be active in Ukrainian politics, advocating for various causes and contributing to the political landscape of the country.
