Early Life and Education
Bronius Kutavičius was born in Lithuania and began his musical studies at the Kaunas Music School in 1921. He continued his education at Kaunas University, graduating in 1943.
Musical Career
Kutavičius was a multi-talented musician who held various positions in Kaunas's musical scene. From 1923 to 1943, he worked at the Kaunas City Museum. In 1943, he joined the Kaunas Youth Theater as a concertmaster, conductor, and musical director. From 1946 to 1950, he taught at Kaunas University.
Kutavičius's compositions include the opera "The Grasshopper and the Ant," the operetta "Bird Concert," and the ballet "The Shepherdess and the Chimney Sweep."
Carillon Restoration and Concerts
Kutavičius played a pivotal role in the restoration of the Kaunas carillon in 1956. He then initiated the tradition of holding carillon concerts in 1957 and trained his son, Gedrius, in the art.
Later Years and Recognition
In 1991, Kutavičius was honored as a Citizen of Honor of Kaunas. His legacy as a composer, musician, and carillonist continues to inspire generations of artists and music lovers in Lithuania and beyond.
