Early Life and Career

Vincent Schiavelli was born into a Sicilian family in Brooklyn, New York, on November 11, 1948. After attending Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School, he pursued acting at New York University's Special Theatre Program. His career as a stage actor began in the late '60s before he made his film debut in 1971's "Taking Off."

Film and Television Success

Schiavelli's distinctive appearance and undeniable talent led to a slew of supporting roles. He frequently collaborated with Milos Forman, appearing in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," "Amadeus," "Valmont," "The People vs. Larry Flynt," and "Man on the Moon." His memorable performance as the Ghost in the 1990 romantic drama "Ghost" earned him widespread acclaim.

Schiavelli also played memorable teachers in the popular teen comedy "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" (1982) and its subsequent TV adaptation, as well as Mr. Kerber in the cult classic "Better Off Dead." He portrayed villains in Tim Burton's "Batman Returns" and the James Bond film "Tomorrow Never Dies."

Legacy

Vincent Schiavelli passed away at the age of 57 on December 26, 2005, from lung cancer in Polizzi Generosa, Sicily, where his grandfather had emigrated from to the United States. In 2002, he published a book about the town titled "Many Beautiful Things: Stories and Recipes from Polizzi Generosa." Schiavelli's unique talent and memorable performances continue to captivate audiences to this day.
