Early Life and Education

Violeta Bulc, a Slovenian politician, entrepreneur, and academic, was born in Maribor, Slovenia. She pursued a degree in computer science at the University of Ljubljana and later obtained a Master's degree in information technology from Golden Gate University in San Francisco.

Professional Career

Bulc's professional career began in the United States, where she worked for DHL System from 1991 to 1994. In 1999, she returned to Slovenia and joined Telekom Slovenije. The following year, she became vice president of commercial law for Telemach. From 2000 to 2014, she led the consulting company Vibacom.

Political Involvement

Bulc became involved in politics through Miro Cerar's party, where she played a key role in developing its program. In 2014, she was sworn in as Minister without Portfolio in Cerar's government, responsible for development and European cohesion policy.

Appointment as Slovenian Commissioner to the European Commission

On October 10, 2014, Bulc was nominated as Slovenia's member of the European Commission, replacing former Prime Minister Alenka Bratušek. She was subsequently appointed as Commissioner for Transport.

Legacy

As Commissioner for Transport, Bulc implemented significant reforms in the EU's transportation sector, including the introduction of the European Railway Traffic Management System and the Connecting Europe Facility. Her work has been recognized with numerous awards, including the European Mobility Award and the Golden Mercury Award.
