Anca Szilágyi is a German pianist and composer of Romanian descent. Born and raised in Romania, she began her musical training at the Ciprian Porumbescu Conservatory in 1972. She went on to study at the George Enescu Music School in Bucharest from 1978 to 1982.
Career in Romania
In 1980, Szilágyi became a member of the Union of Romanian Composers. She published numerous articles in music journals and co-authored a work on the composer Giovanni Palestrina with Liviu Comes. Her compositions earned her several prizes and awards.
Emigration to Germany
In 1982, Szilágyi emigrated to Germany. She taught at the Heidelberg Institute of Church Music (1986-1991), the Frankfurt Conservatory (1989-1992), and the Bayreuth Institute of Evangelical Church Music (1990-1994).
Academic Career
Since 1996, Szilágyi has been a professor of applied composition at the University of Oldenburg. She resides in both Baden-Baden and Oldenburg and has given lectures in the United States and South Africa.
