Early Life and CareerVitaliy Kolesnik is a Kazakhstani ice hockey player who currently serves as the goaltender for "Barys" in the KHL. He was born on February 14, 1979, in Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan. Kolesnik was trained at the "Torpedo" hockey school in Ust-Kamenogorsk.
Professional Career
From 2005 to 2006, Kolesnik played for the "Colorado Avalanche" and the "Lowell Lock Monsters". In 2006, he signed a contract with the hockey club "Atlant". From 2009 to 2012, he was a player for the Ufa-based team "Salavat Yulaev".
Achievements
Vitaliy Kolesnik was named the Best Hockey Player of Kazakhstan in 2005. He won the bronze medal in the Open Championship of Russia for the Continental Hockey League in the 2009-2010 season. In 2011, he became the champion of the Winter Asian Games. Kolesnik also won the Russian championship and the Gagarin Cup as part of "Salavat Yulaev" in the 2010-2011 season.
International Career
Vitaliy Kolesnik represented Kazakhstan in the 1999 IIHF World U20 Championship. He also participated in the Olympic Games in 2006 and the World Championships in 2001 (Division I), 2002 (Division I), 2003 (Division I), 2004, and 2005 as a member of the Kazakhstani national team. There was a prolonged discussion about his potential inclusion in the Russian national team, similar to the situation with Evgeni Nabokov, but it never materialized.
