Biography of Jori Lehterä
Early CareerJori Lehterä is a Finnish ice hockey player who currently plays as a forward for the KHL club "Lokomotiv". He started his professional career in the SM-Liiga in 2006, playing for the club "Jokerit" from Helsinki. In his debut season, Lehterä scored 6 goals and provided 6 assists in 28 games.
Moving to "Tappara"
In April 2007, Lehterä signed a three-year contract with "Tappara". In his first season for the new club, he scored 13 goals and provided 29 assists, accumulating a total of 42 points. Lehterä also helped "Tappara" win bronze medals.
NHL Draft and Move to "Peoria Rivermen"
In 2008, Lehterä participated in the NHL Draft and was selected by the "St. Louis Blues" in the third round, 65th overall. In the 2008-2009 season, he scored 9 goals and provided 38 assists, accumulating a total of 47 points. In March 2009, Lehterä moved to the "Peoria Rivermen" (AHL), the farm team of the "St. Louis Blues". However, he didn't perform well in the American club, scoring only one goal in 14 games.
Success in the SM-Liiga
In the 2009-2010 season, Lehterä had his most successful season in the SM-Liiga, scoring 19 goals and providing 50 assists, totaling 69 points. He received two individual trophies at the end of the season: the Lasse Oksanen Trophy, awarded to the most valuable player in the regular season based on journalists' votes, and the Veikko Kettunen Trophy, given to the top scorer of the season.
Move to "Lokomotiv"
On May 31, 2010, Jori Lehterä signed a two-year contract with the Yaroslavl-based club "Lokomotiv". After his contract expires, Lehterä will have the opportunity to continue his career with the "St. Louis Blues".
International Career
In 2007, Jori Lehterä was invited to the Finnish national junior team. However, he couldn't participate in the World Junior Championship due to a shoulder injury. He was replaced by Ville Korhonen, a forward from "Ilves". Lehterä later represented the senior Finnish national team in the 2010 World Championship.
