Early Life and Education

Serhiy Tereschenko was born on June 7, 1955, in the city of Yaroslavl, Russia. In 1977, he graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics at Moscow State University, specializing in mathematics.

Academic Career and Economic Research

After completing his undergraduate studies, Tereschenko worked as an engineer at the Scientific and Production Association "Energiya" from September 1977 to November 1980. He then pursued a postgraduate degree at the Kyiv Institute of National Economy from 1980 to 1984, where he earned a Candidate of Economic Sciences degree.

From May 1984 to December 1991, Tereschenko served as the head of a sector at the Ukrainian branch of the All-Union Research Institute of Consumer Cooperation. He later moved to the Research Institute of Socioeconomic Problems in Kyiv, where he held the position of head of department from January 1992 to October 1996.

Diplomatic Training and Experience

To enhance his professional development, Tereschenko participated in various training programs sponsored by institutions such as the National Forum Foundation, Harvard University, New York University, and Georgetown University. He also undertook short-term internships in Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, and Spain.

Diplomatic Service and Ministerial Roles

From October 1996 to February 2000, Tereschenko served as the deputy head of the National Agency of Ukraine for Development and European Integration. He subsequently held the position of deputy head of a department at the Ukrainian Ministry of Economy from February 2000 to June 2000.

Tereschenko embarked on a diplomatic career in 2000, serving as the first secretary and economic adviser at the Embassy of Ukraine in the United States from June 2000 to October 2003. He later became the head of the Economic Cooperation Department at the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs from October 2003 to July 2004.

From July 2004 to May 2006, Tereschenko rose to the position of deputy minister of foreign affairs, overseeing various departments. He was appointed as Ukraine's ambassador to Japan in May 2006, a role he held until August 2006.

On August 4, 2006, Tereschenko was appointed as the Minister of Economy of Ukraine, a position he held until March 21, 2007. He also served as a member of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine from September 2006 to February 2007.

Later Career

Following his tenure as economy minister, Tereschenko was appointed as the deputy minister of fuel and energy of Ukraine on June 20, 2007. He was awarded the rank of State Servant, 1st Class, in October 2007.

Tereschenko has authored numerous scientific publications on topics related to international economics, foreign investment, and municipal development. He is married and has two sons.
