Early Life and Academic Career

Vladimir Ivanovich Anikeev, a prominent Belarusian bibliographer, literary critic, and translator, completed his education in chemistry at the Belarusian State University. Subsequently, he became a senior researcher at the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, where his expertise contributed significantly to the development and implementation of a novel medication created by the Laboratory of Steroid Chemistry.

Editorial, Translational, and Bibliographic Work

Beyond his scientific endeavors, Anikeev engaged extensively in the bibliographic, translational, and editorial pursuits surrounding science fiction (SF). He translated various works from English and Polish, occasionally using the pseudonym V.I. Karchevsky. His translations also included novels by E.S. Gardner, historical literature, and romantic fiction under different pseudonyms.

A remarkable achievement was his collaboration on the biobibliographic handbook titled "Writers and Critics of Science Fiction in the Polish Republic" (1990). This work, co-authored with V. Anikeev, presented unprecedented biographical and bibliographic details on contemporary Polish SF authors, encompassing approximately 100 writers and critics, along with a list of Russian translations of their works.

Bibliographic Contributions

Anikeev's other notable bibliographic contribution was "The Ice Has Broken...: Anglo-American Science Fiction in Russian Translations" (1994). This comprehensive work charted the evolution of Anglo-American SF literature in post-perestroika Russia. Additionally, he served on the editorial board of the SF magazine "Fantastikrim-MEGA."

Currently residing in Minsk, Anikeev maintains an ardent interest in Polish science fiction, having translated and reviewed several works within the genre. His extensive book and magazine collection boasts a diverse range of editions from Russian, Belarusian, Bulgarian, German, Polish, Ukrainian, and Czech sources.
