Vladimir Gazzaev: A Journey in Football

Early Life and Playing Career

Vladimir Gazzaev was born into a football family, being the son of legendary Russian coach Valeri Gazzaev. His professional playing career, however, was short-lived. He played for the reserve team of Alania Vladikavkaz from 1997 to 1998 before deciding to hang up his boots.

Return to Football as a Coach

After an 11-year hiatus, Gazzaev returned to football in 2009 as an assistant coach at Alania Vladikavkaz. He held the same role under Romanian coach Mircea Rednic. In 2010, Alania gained promotion to the Russian Premier League, and Vladimir kept his place in the coaching staff under Vladimir Shevchuk.

Head Coach of Alania Vladikavkaz

In 2011, with his father becoming the club's president, Vladimir was appointed as the new head coach of Alania. He led the team to the Russian Cup final and promotion back to the Premier League in his debut season. At 32 years and 20 days, Gazzaev became the youngest coach in the history of the Russian top flight. He left the post in 2012 to join Alania's scouting department, with his father taking over as head coach.

In June 2013, Gazzaev returned to his role as head coach, but the club was dissolved due to financial problems in 2014.

Coaching Abroad

From July 2014 to 2015, Gazzaev coached Kazakh club FC Aktobe, leading them to the league runner-up spot. He then briefly led Georgian club FC Rustavi in 2018 and Kazakh club FC Tobol in 2019.

Recent Years

In 2021, Gazzaev became the head coach of Italian Serie D club ACN Siena. However, due to Visa issues, Latvian coach Marjan Pahars officially held the position. In 2022, Gazzaev coached Kazakh club Turan Turkestan before stepping down in April.
