Biography of Vladimir Quint

Vladimir Quint is an outstanding Russian-American scientist and economist. He obtained his Doctor of Science degree in 1988 from the Institute of Economics of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Born in Krasnoyarsk, Quint completed his schooling there before moving to Norilsk. At the age of 14, he began working while also actively participating in sports.

In 1972, Quint successfully graduated from the Krasnoyarsk Institute of Nonferrous Metals, and three years later, he became a candidate of economic sciences after completing his postgraduate studies at the G.V. Plekhanov Moscow Institute of the National Economy. In 1988, Quint obtained his Doctor of Science degree from the Institute of Economics of the USSR Academy of Sciences.

Although offered a job at one of Moscow's universities, Quint returned to Norilsk in 1975. He founded the management organization sector of the Norilsk Mining and Metallurgical Combine, where he planned the company's first general organizational structure. In 1976, Quint became the Deputy Director General and Chairman of the Scientific and Production Company "Sibtsvetmetavtomatika." In his new position, he mainly focused on economic matters such as defining the company's economic policy, business planning, and organizing the implementation of compensation systems and management of accounting departments.

Quint's effectiveness is best demonstrated by the fact that under his leadership, the company became the first in the USSR to achieve self-sufficiency, which was highly unusual at that time. In 1978, Quint was invited to the USSR Academy of Sciences and soon became the head of the regional problems division of the Institute of Economics and Organization of Industrial Production of the Siberian branch of the Academy of Sciences. Quickly realizing the lack of necessary data and economic information within his division, Quint developed new methods for studying economic situations and rectified the situation.

In addition, Quint led research expeditions. Under his guidance, the exploration of all eight northern seas was organized, followed by an expedition along the Pacific coast of the country. In 1988, Quint traveled abroad for the first time and began lecturing around the world. He was invited to prestigious educational institutions in Austria, Belgium, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, China, Luxembourg, the United States, and Switzerland. Quint's lectures were not only attended by regular students and fellow scientists, but he also delivered some to the Presidium of the Royal Belgian Academy of Sciences.

From 1989 to 1990, Quint periodically lectured at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration. In 2009, he was invited to the London School of Economics, followed by an invitation to the Parliament of Scotland in 2010. In 2011, Quint spoke at the Imperial College London and the University of Edinburgh.

Since 1990, Quint has been living and working in the United States, where he has become a full-fledged citizen.
