Biography of Erik Robert Lindahl
Erik Robert Lindahl was a Swedish economist who was born on November 21, 1891, in Stockholm and passed away on January 6, 1960, in Uppsala. He held the position of professor of economics at Uppsala University from 1942 to 1958. Prior to that, he taught at the Gothenburg School of Business, Economics and Law from 1932 to 1939 and at Lund University from 1939 to 1942. Lindahl also served as the president of the International Economic Association (IEA) from 1956 to 1959.
Contributions to Economics
Erik Lindahl was heavily influenced by the works of Knut Wicksell and is considered one of the prominent figures of the Stockholm School of Economics. His research quickly gained international attention and he became known for his ideas and conclusions that aligned with Keynesian economics. Lindahl's expertise and insights were sought after, and he served as an advisor to the Swedish government and the National Bank.
Achievements and Recognition
In 1943, Erik Lindahl was elected as a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, with the membership number 909. His renowned book "Studies in the Theory of Money and Capital" published in 1939 became a classic work in the field of economics.
