Vladimir Nazaryan: A Prominent Armenian Jurist
Vladimir Nazaryan, a distinguished Armenian jurist, served as the former Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia. His life and career were marked by significant achievements and ultimately a tragic end.
Early Life and Education
Born in Yerevan in 1932, Nazaryan completed his secondary education in 1950 and went on to study law at the Faculty of Law of Yerevan State University, graduating in 1957.
Academic Achievements
In 1963, Nazaryan obtained the title of Candidate of Sciences in Law. Throughout his career, he held positions in the field of jurisprudence, including serving as the head of the Department of International Law and Jurisprudence at Yerevan State University from 1983 to 1988. In 1988, he successfully defended his doctoral dissertation.
Public Service
Nazaryan's public service culminated in his appointment as Prosecutor General of the Armenian SSR from 1988 to 1990. Later, from 1995 to 2001, he served as the head of the legal department of the Parliament of the Republic of Armenia.
Drafting the Armenian Constitution
One of Nazaryan's most significant contributions was his role in drafting the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia, which came into effect on July 5, 1995. His legal expertise and dedication left a lasting mark on the nation's legal framework.
Tragic End
On June 21, 2002, Nazaryan tragically took his own life by hanging himself. The reasons for his suicide remain unknown. A suicide note was discovered at the scene. He was survived by his daughter, who discovered his body.
