Vladimir Petrov: Media Killer and Presidential Candidate

Vladimir Petrov, also known as "the media killer" and "the black PR specialist," is a controversial figure in Ukrainian politics. Despite being under house arrest for his involvement in a high-profile sex scandal, he has filed his candidacy for the 2019 presidential election.

Early Life and Education

Born on November 20, 1977, in Dnipro, Petrov studied at the Kryvyi Rih Technical University, specializing in underground mining engineering.

Family

Petrov is married to Tatyana, with whom he has a daughter.
Career

Petrov worked in television and maintained a popular blog on Livejournal under the nickname Lumpen. He later launched the "Lyumpen Show" blog on YouTube and a project called "Iceland." Petrov is also a producer for Lyumpen Production LLC, director of Contemporary City VOO, and producer and host of the aforementioned media projects. From 2016, he co-hosted the show "Dangerous Tours" on the channel "Friday" with television presenter Zhanna Badoeva. He collaborates closely with controversial host Alexey Durnev, blogger Alexander Baraboshko, and journalist Vasyl Krutchak.

Political Career

During the sixth convocation of the Ukrainian Parliament (2007-2012), Petrov served as an assistant-consultant to Yulia Tymoshenko's Bloc MP, Svyatoslav Oleinik. Media reports indicate that he later worked as PR manager for Arseniy Yatsenyuk during the 2010 presidential elections. In 2012, he ran for Parliament in the 133rd district (Odesa) as a non-partisan self-nominated candidate, while also serving as the head of the "Journalists against Deputies" NGO. In 2015, Petrov ran for the Dnipro City Council from the pro-Russian party "Nasha Kraina."

Controversies

Petrov has been involved in numerous scandals, earning him the moniker "media killer." In 2009, he made headlines for posting an obscene comment on behalf of Arseniy Yatsenyuk on his Livejournal page, forgetting to log out. Another major scandal, dubbed "pedophilegate," emerged when Petrov published a letter from MP Grigory Omelchenko to President Viktor Yushchenko. This sparked a high-profile investigation into allegations of pedophilia at the Artek children's camp. The scandal implicated Yuliya Tymoshenko Bloc MPs Sergey Terekhin, Ruslan Bohdan, and Viktor Ukolov in child abuse, which they vehemently denied. The case against them was closed in 2011. Petrov was also reportedly involved in the "carrot incident," when Alexey Durnev handed a carrot to Arseniy Yatsenyuk during a political rally, symbolizing presidential power, and Yatsenyuk threatened Durnev with physical violence. Petrov's team is said to have worked for the Bankova administration during Yanukovych's presidency, often targeting the opposition with smear campaigns.

More recently, Petrov has been implicated in a fabricated sex scandal involving Alexander Varchenko, Deputy Head of the National Police's Economic Security Department, and KPU student Nataliya Bureiko.

Sex Scandal Investigation

In November 2018, Petrov and his friend, blogger Alexander Baraboshko, were detained as part of an SBU investigation into a disinformation campaign surrounding the fake harassment scandal. In court, Petrov was placed under around-the-clock house arrest. He denies all charges against him.

Wealth

Petrov has declared two land plots in the Kyiv region measuring 1200 and 880 square meters, respectively. He also owns an apartment in the capital with an area of 72.8 square meters. Petrov's vehicles include a 2010 Porsche Panamera and a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro. He reported an income of 123,800 hryvnia in 2017 and possesses $30,000 in cash. He has accounts at Ukrsibbank containing $33,200 and OTP Bank with a balance of 25,981 hryvnia.

Petrov's wife owns a 549-square-meter land plot with a 134.9-square-meter garden house in the Kyiv region, as well as another land plot in the Kirovohrad region. She owns a newer Porsche, a 2011 model, and has $2,400 in bank accounts and $18,000 in cash. Additionally, Petrov has declared ownership of a painting by Oles Poderevyansky.

Presidential Platform

Petrov's presidential platform includes promises of free daily bread and internet for every Ukrainian citizen, as well as:

Abolishing criminal and administrative liability for stealing food up to 1000 hryvnia

Eliminating the State Pension Fund

Uniting the church and state, declaring Ukraine an Orthodox Christian country

Transferring the functions of the Ministry of Social Policy to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine

Dismantling the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and more.

Petrov also vows to restore Ukraine's "original territories" from Poland, Belarus, Russia, Romania, and Hungary through diplomatic, political, and other measures.
