Early Life and Education
Vitalii Chubai was born on November 7, 1931, in the village of Novopetrivka, Zaporizhzhia Oblast, Ukraine. He graduated with a degree in Philology from Dnipropetrovsk State University in 1954.
Career
Chubai worked at a metallurgical plant before becoming a correspondent for various city newspapers and oblast television. His strong nationalistic views drew the attention of the KGB, and he faced persecution.
Repression and Rehabilitation
In 1985, Chubai was arrested and charged with nationalist activities. However, in 1986, he was exonerated due to lack of evidence.
Literary Works
Chubai is renowned for his poetry collections, including "Birth of a Song," "Father's Field," and "The Root of My Lineage." He also wrote prose works such as "Wooden Crosses" and "The Vast Zone of a Criminal Regime."
Anthologies and Publications
Chubai edited and compiled the poetic anthology "Spring Flower," featuring poets from Dniprodzerzhynsk. His work has been published in numerous Ukrainian periodicals and in newspapers across the globe, including Canada, the United States, Australia, Czechoslovakia, and Israel.
Legacy
Vitalii Chubai passed away on May 8, 2015, leaving behind a legacy as a prominent Ukrainian poet, writer, and advocate for national self-determination. His works continue to inspire and resonate with readers to this day.
