Early Life and Education
Volodymyr Vakulenko, a renowned Ukrainian artist and designer, was born in 1969 in Znamianka, Ukraine. His artistic journey began in 1989 when he graduated from the Dnipropetrovsk State Art College (DDHU). Vakulenko furthered his education by enrolling in the Ukrainian Academy of Arts (UAI), now known as the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture (NAOMA), from which he graduated in 1995. He studied under the esteemed professors A. V. Chebykin and N. I. Kompanets in the graphic art workshop.
Artistic Practice
Vakulenko's artistic practice encompasses painting and graphic art. He is known for his exploration of form and innovation in techniques. His work incorporates a variety of mediums, including pastel, tempera, encaustic (hot wax), collage, ceramics, glass, and fused smalt. Vakulenko's creations are characterized by their distinctive graphicality, with fluid lines that interact and clash to produce captivating and dynamic imagery. Through the use of color patches and lines, he combines abstraction and figuration, resulting in concise images that convey powerful emotions.
Teaching and Recognition
Since 1989, Vakulenko has actively participated in local, Ukrainian, and international exhibitions. His works are widely appreciated, with collections being held in Ukraine, the United States, France, Austria, Germany, Poland, Denmark, and Russia. In recognition of his artistic achievements, he has been a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine since 2000. Additionally, Vakulenko has been teaching at the Kyiv Children's Academy of Arts (KDAU) since 1995, nurturing the next generation of Ukrainian artists.
