Biography of Vladimir Veremeenko
Vladimir Veremeenko is a Belarusian and Russian basketball player who played as a power forward. He was born on October 5, 1984, in Gomel, Belarus. Veremeenko comes from a basketball family, as his sister Anastasia Veremeenko is also a professional basketball player.
Early Career
Veremeenko began his basketball career in Gomel, Belarus, under the guidance of his first coach, Igor Egorovich Morozov. He played for various Belarusian clubs, including RSHVSM-BGPA, Sozh, and Spartak-Konditer, achieving success as a silver and bronze medalist in the Belarusian championship.
Professional Career
In 2002, Veremeenko moved to Russia and joined the team Avtodor. He then played for Dynamo Saint Petersburg, where he won the FIBA EuroLeague in 2004. Veremeenko was drafted by the Washington Wizards in the NBA draft of 2006 but decided to stay in Russia and joined Khimki Moscow Region.
In 2008, Veremeenko transferred to UNICS Kazan, where he spent six seasons and became the record holder for the most games played by a foreign player in the club's history. With UNICS Kazan, he won two Russian Cups and the Eurocup in 2011. He was also named the Best Belarusian Player of the VTB United League in the 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 seasons.
In 2014, Veremeenko signed a contract with Saragossa in Spain but did not play any games for the team and later joined Banvit. During that year, he set a new record in the Eurocup for the highest number of rebounds in a season. Veremeenko then played for Reggiana in Italy in the 2015/2016 season before moving to Brose Bamberg in Germany.
In November 2017, Veremeenko joined Nizhny Novgorod and continued to showcase his skills in the VTB United League. In October 2018, he signed with AEK Larnaca in Cyprus and became a silver medalist in the Cypriot championship. Veremeenko then returned to his hometown team, Tsmoki-Minsk, in September 2019, winning the Belarusian Cup with them.
In May 2020, Veremeenko renewed his contract with Tsmoki-Minsk and was named the MVP of the final series of the Belarusian championship in the 2020/2021 season. However, in September 2021, he decided to temporarily suspend his playing career and later announced his retirement.
