Early Life and Education
Vasyl Ivanovich Babii was born on March 3, 1941, in the village of Trapovka, in the Tatarbunarsky district of the Odessa region. He is of Ukrainian descent.
Babii received his education from the Izmail Technical College of Mechanization and Electrification of Agriculture (1955-1959), the Odessa Technological Institute of Food and Refrigeration Industry (1962-1965), and the Kyiv Automobile and Road Institute (1966-1971).
Military Service
From 1963 to 1966, Babii served in the Soviet Army on the Northern Fleet.
Career
After his military service, Babii worked as a dispatcher-planner at the Izmail Repair Plant from 1966 to 1971. From 1971 to 1975, he served as the chief engineer of the XXII Congress of the CPSU collective farm in the village of Muravlevka.
In 1975, Babii became the chief engineer of the Kalinin collective farm in the village of Staraya Nekrasovka in the Izmail district of the Odessa region. He held this position until 1978, when he became the chief engineer of a fur farm.
From 1979 to 1983, Babii worked as the chief engineer of the Kirov collective farm in the village of Kislice. In February 1983, he became the deputy director of the Kalinin collective farm, and from April 1983 to November 1995, he served as its director.
Since November 1995, Babii has been the chairman of the board of the "Svoboda" agrocompany in the village of Staraya Nekrasovka. He is also a member of the Odessa Regional Council (since 2006) and serves on the Commission on Land Relations and Administrative-Territorial Arrangement.
Family
Vasyl Babii is married to Vera Ivanovna (born 1947). They have two sons, Sergey (born 1969) and Vladimir (born 1975).
