Early Life and Education

Vladimir Yastrebyak was born in the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR). He earned a law degree from the Pridnestrovian State University named after T.G. Shevchenko in 2001.

Diplomatic Career

Ministry of Justice and Early Diplomatic Roles

Yastrebyak began his career in the PMR's Ministry of Justice as a chief specialist from October 2000 to March 2001. He joined the PMR's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in March 2001.

First Deputy Minister and Acting Foreign Minister

From 2003 to 2007, Yastrebyak served as the head of the legal department within the MFA's functional support department. He became the first deputy minister of foreign affairs on February 16, 2007, and later assumed the role of acting foreign minister on July 1, 2008.

Minister of Foreign Affairs

On November 28, 2008, Yastrebyak was appointed as the PMR's Minister of Foreign Affairs. He held this position until January 17, 2012, when he was dismissed during a government reshuffle.

Post-Ministerial Career

After leaving the MFA, Yastrebyak served as the deputy director of international relations for Mobilight CJSC from June to December 31, 2012. In 2013, he was declared persona non grata by Azerbaijan.

Academia and Special Representative Role

Yastrebyak also taught political science at the Pridnestrovian State University. On June 28, 2017, he was appointed as the special representative of the PMR President for relations with Ukraine.

Death

Vladimir Yastrebyak passed away in Tiraspol on May 11, 2024. The cause of death has not been disclosed.
