Early Life and Education
Oleksandr Kriklii was born in Ukraine and graduated from the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv with a Master's degree in Finance in 2009. He went on to earn a Candidate of Economic Sciences degree in 2015 with a dissertation on "Non-State Pension Funds in the Pension System of Ukraine."
Career in Finance and Technology
Prior to entering politics, Kriklii worked in the investment banking sector and for Tickets.ua, a company specializing in automating electronic payment processes.
Political Career
Kriklii joined the "Servant of the People" party and ran as a parliamentary candidate in the 2019 election, securing the 12th spot on the party list. He was elected as a non-party member of the Ukrainian Parliament.
Minister of Infrastructure
On August 29, 2019, Kriklii was appointed Minister of Infrastructure in the government of Oleksiy Honcharuk. He also became a member of the National Investment Council on December 24, 2019.
Controversies
In November 2020, Kriklii was involved in two international controversies. He was barred from a scheduled meeting with the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan after he was found to have provided a fake COVID-19 test result. Additionally, he angered Poland by posting on social media that Ukraine had "squeezed the Poles" in negotiations over an auto transportation agreement. Poland interpreted his language as disrespectful.
