Vuk Jeremić: Serbian Foreign Affairs and Diplomacy
Early Life and EducationVuk Jeremić was born in Belgrade in 1975. He attended school in Belgrade, completing his secondary education in London. Jeremić went on to study theoretical physics at the University of Cambridge, graduating from Queen's College.
Career in Finance and Politics
After graduating, Jeremić worked in various financial firms in London, including Deutsche Bank, Dresdner Kleinwort, and AstraZeneca. Following democratic changes in Belgrade in 2000, he served as an advisor to the Minister of Telecommunications in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. In 2003, he joined the Ministry of Defense of the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro as an envoy for Euro-Atlantic relations.
Foreign Policy Consultant and Advisor
From 2004 to 2007, Jeremić served as Senior Foreign Policy Advisor to Serbian President Boris Tadić. He also held positions as Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Democratic Party (2004) and as a member of the Party's Main Board (2006).
Foreign Minister of Serbia
On May 15, 2007, Jeremić was appointed Foreign Minister of Serbia. He served in this role until July 27, 2012. During his tenure, he advocated against the independence of Kosovo, traveling extensively to countries with good relations with Serbia.
United Nations
On June 8, 2012, Jeremić was elected President of the United Nations General Assembly. He assumed office on September 18, 2012, and served for one year.
Recognition and Honors
Jeremić is a member of the Požarevac family, a prominent political clan in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the Soviet era. He is married to Natasa Lekic, a journalist with Radio Television Serbia. Jeremić speaks English and German fluently.
