Political Career

On January 22, 2008, Touadéra was appointed as the Prime Minister of CAR by President François Bozizé. His government, consisting of 29 ministers, officially started its work on January 28. In an effort to reconcile with the rebels, the government was dissolved on January 18, 2009, and a new government was formed the following day, with only 10 ministers from the previous cabinet retaining their positions. The new government also included several leaders of rebel groups.

On April 22, 2011, Touadéra formed another new government, with only ten ministers from the previous cabinet retaining their posts. This time, two relatives of President François Bozizé, his son (Minister of Defense) and nephew (Minister of Finance), were included in the new cabinet.

In December 2012, an armed conflict broke out in CAR, with rebels accusing President François Bozizé's government of not fulfilling the conditions of the peace agreements signed in 2007. The rebels seized control of many major cities in the central and eastern parts of the country. On January 11, 2013, a ceasefire agreement was signed in Libreville, Gabon. The rebels agreed to withdraw their demand for President François Bozizé's resignation, and he was to appoint an opposition representative as the Prime Minister of the country by January 18. On January 12, Faustin-Archange Touadéra was dismissed, and on January 17, Nicolas Tiangaye, the opposition candidate nominated by the agreement, took office.

Presidential Elections 2015 and 2020

In 2015, Touadéra ran for the presidency of CAR in the elections held on December 20. During his campaign, he emphasized his impartiality towards both the Seleka and Anti-Balaka factions, which had been involved in armed clashes. On February 20, 2016, he won a convincing victory in the second round of the presidential elections, receiving 62.71% of the votes. His opponent, Anicet-Georges Dologuélé, a former prime minister of CAR, received support from only 37% of the voters, despite being backed by former President Bozizé.

Touadéra assumed office as President on March 30, 2016. After four years, he participated in another pre-election campaign and contested for the presidency in the elections held on December 20, 2020. On January 4, 2021, it was announced that he had won in the first round, garnering around 53% of the votes, defeating Anicet-Georges Dologuélé.

Awards and Achievements

On January 28, 2019, Touadéra founded the Order of Reconciliation of the Central African Republic as a result of signing the agreement "Peace and Reconciliation in the Central African Republic" in Khartoum, Sudan. The order is awarded to every citizen of CAR or foreign national who has contributed to reconciliation and peacebuilding efforts in the country.
