Early Life and Education
Born in Armenia, the distinguished military and political figure pursued his higher education at the prestigious K.E. Voroshilov Higher Border Military-Political Red Banner School of the KGB USSR, graduating in 1978. Subsequently, he completed his graduate studies at the M.V. Frunze Military Academy of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation in 1995, earning a degree in combined arms operations.
Military Career in the KGB USSR
From 1978 onward, he served in various positions within the Border Troops of the KGB USSR, primarily in the Caucasus Region. His responsibilities included securing the state border with Iran and Turkey, ensuring its integrity and preventing unauthorized crossings.
Service in Armenia's Security Forces
Following the dissolution of the USSR in 1993, he transferred his service to the National Security Service (NSS) of the Republic of Armenia. During his tenure, he held commanding positions within its subordinate forces, including the Border Troops.
Command of the Border Troops
From 2003 to 2005, he held the post of Commander of the Border Troops of the NSS. In this role, he oversaw the protection of Armenia's international borders and coordinated with counterparts from other CIS member states through the Council of Commanders of Border Troops.
