Early Life and Military Service

Walter Weiss was born on March 19, 1908, in Germany. He joined the military in 1908 as a cadet and graduated in 1911. He served as an adjutant and then as a company commander in the 3rd Battalion of the 59th (4th Posen) Infantry Regiment.

World War I

Weiss participated in World War I, serving on staff positions in the Scholz Army Group and the 226th Infantry Division. He was decorated with the Iron Cross 1st and 2nd Class for his bravery.

Interwar Period

After the war, Weiss served in the border guard and in the Reichswehr. He held various staff positions and was promoted to captain in 1918. In 1932, he was transferred to the commandant's office in Breslau.

World War II

Weiss played a significant role in World War II. He participated in the Polish and French campaigns. In December 1940, he became commander of the 97th Light Division, followed by the 26th Infantry Division in January 1941. From June 1941, he fought on the Eastern Front.

In July 1942, Weiss commanded the XXVII Army Corps and later the 2nd Army. He faced several Soviet offensives and was successful in defensive operations. In March 1945, he took over as commander of Army Group North in East Prussia, but was later captured by American forces.

Post-War

Weiss was released from captivity in March 1948. He retired from military service and passed away at an unknown date.
