Wes Piermarini: An American Rower
Early Life and EducationBorn on November 19, 1982, in Massachusetts, Wes Piermarini is an American rower who belongs to the United States National Team. Growing up, he spent time by the pool, which sparked his interest in rowing. Piermarini attended the University of Massachusetts, where he competed in the sport.
Pursuing Rowing and Architecture
After graduating from UMass in 2005, Piermarini enrolled in graduate school for architecture while continuing to row. He excelled in competitions, winning events in 2005 and 2006.
Break and Return to Rowing
From October 2006 to September 2007, Piermarini took a break from rowing. However, he received an offer from a former teammate to resume training in single sculls. He traveled to California and connected with rowing coach Tim McLaren, who agreed to train him. Piermarini pursued graduate studies in Northern California alongside his rowing practice.
Partnership with Elliot Hovey
Piermarini switched to double sculling and partnered with Elliot Hovey. Together, they formed a formidable team.
Olympic Aspirations
In preparation for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Piermarini and Hovey dedicated themselves to training, spending countless hours on the water. They were determined to represent the United States and strive for victory.
Family and Business Involvement
In addition to his athletic endeavors, Piermarini is also involved in the family business and works part-time at MBH in San Francisco. His brothers, Andrew and Garrett, assisted their father in running the company, and Wes continues to contribute his time.
