Early Life and Education
Willem Kok was born in Bergschenhoek, Netherlands. He pursued higher education at Nyenrode Business University.
Professional Beginnings
Upon completing his military service, Kok worked for a brief time at a small trading company. In 1961, he was appointed Assistant to the International Affairs Representative of the Dutch Federation of Trade Unions.
Political Career
Chairman of the Dutch Federation of Trade Unions (1973-1982)Kok served as the Chairman of the Dutch Federation of Trade Unions from 1973 to 1982.
Minister of Finance (1989-1994)
Kok became the Minister of Finance in Ruud Lubbers' government on November 7, 1989. He held this position until August 22, 1994.
Prime Minister (1994-2002)
Kok was appointed Prime Minister on August 22, 1994. He was re-elected on August 3, 1998. However, in 2002, his cabinet resigned due to accusations of the Dutch army's failure to prevent the Srebrenica massacre.
Post-Political Career
In 2004, Kok led a group of experts analyzing the implementation of the Lisbon Strategy. Since retiring from politics, he has held positions in various corporations.
