The Heart-Shaped Oak Forest
Winston Howes is a British farmer who planted an oak forest in memory of his beloved wife. When the oaks grew, it turned out that a heart-shaped clearing had formed in the middle of the forest. The heart is so perfectly shaped that it's hard to believe it wasn't done intentionally. Meanwhile, Winston planted his oaks without any system, simply following his heart's desires. Today, he hopes that his late wife is admiring the oak heart from above.
Biography of Winston Howes
Winston Howes is a fortunate man who had the privilege of spending a long life filled with love with the one and only woman who captured his heart. Unfortunately, his beloved wife Janet passed away first, dying of heart failure in 1994 at the young age of 50. Winston was crushed by grief and couldn't fathom how he would be able to go on living. However, as the days passed, the pain of his loss began to dull slightly, and a desire to honor Janet's memory and create something that would forever commemorate her name for Winston and everyone else emerged.
Winston, who had been a farmer all his life, decided to plant an oak forest in honor of Janet. Together, they had spent thirty years and had their first encounter in 1960, getting married just two years later. They were a beautiful couple, and Winston never hid the fact that Janet was the only love of his life. His wife reciprocated the same feelings, and they were blessed with a son. When Janet passed away in 1994, Winston couldn't believe what had happened. After some time, he decided to immortalize Janet's memory and began planting young oak saplings with his son. Eventually, they planted several thousand trees that grew into a dense oak forest.
The most interesting part of this story, however, is that while flying over Howes' oak forest, a pilot once noticed a perfectly shaped heart formed by the forest and a clearing in the middle. A photograph from above confirmed that there was indeed a green heart-shaped clearing in the center of the oak forest. Amazingly, when Winston planted his trees, he had no intention of creating any specific shape. He simply followed his heart's guidance. When shown a photograph of his trees from above, he was simultaneously amazed, puzzled, and touched. Winston believes that his beloved Janet is admiring the oak forest from above, which was grown in the name of love.
Now knowing that there is a heart in the middle of his forest, Winston and his son occasionally plant daffodils on the "heart-shaped" clearing. When they bloom in the spring, it is truly a beautiful sight. Sometimes, Winston, who is now in his 70s, visits the oak forest, sits down, and reminisces about Janet and their life together. He remembers her as a young woman, who in his eyes, was always the most beautiful woman in the world.
