Blessed Władysław Gorala

Early Life and Priesthood

Władysław Gorala was born in the Podlaskie region of Poland. He was ordained a priest in 1920.

Auxiliary Bishop of Lublin

On August 10, 1938, Gorala was appointed auxiliary bishop of the Lublin diocese. He was consecrated a bishop on October 9, 1938.

Arrest and Imprisonment

On November 17, 1939, Gorala was arrested by the Gestapo during the Sonderaktion Lublin operation. He was imprisoned in Lublin Castle and later sentenced to death.

Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp

Gorala's death sentence was commuted to imprisonment in Sachsenhausen concentration camp. Despite his confinement, he continued to minister to the Catholic faithful in the camp.

Execution and Beatification

Gorala was executed in February 1945. In 1999, he was beatified by Pope John Paul II as one of the 108 Polish Martyrs of World War II. His feast day is celebrated on June 12.
